Volkswagen will be rolling out an all new family of Golf based models in 2014 here in the United States including an all new Jetta Sportwagen, called the Golf Variant in Europe and shown above.
Whats more, is that Volkswagen will introduce an All Track version too with increased ground clearance and rugged lower body cladding. The move will put the new All Track version of the Jetta SportWagen in direct competition with the likes of the Subaru Ouback.
We have seen engineering mules of such a vehicle doing not weather testing here in Arizona around Phoenix, though we didn’t get photos. The cars have noticeably more ground clearance and a more rugged stance.
The new all-terrain Jetta SportWagen is likely to be immensely popular as the buyer profile of the current SportWagen is one in which the All Track will likely be welcome. And given Subaru is one of the only competitors, it will be an attractive options.
Engines are expected to include Volkswagen’s new 2.0 liter EA288 turbo-diesel engine with 150 horsepower. Gasoline engines will include a 1.8 liter TSI engine with 170 horsepower and the ultimate power option, a 2.0 liter TSI with 210 horsepower.
The current Jetta SportWagen is a diesel champ, with nearly 90% of all sold in America being optioned with the 2.0 liter “clean diesel” engine. The new diesel Volkswagen is launching is said to be not only more powerful than the current, but even cleaner yet.
The new Jetta SportWagen AllTrack is not to be confused with a larger crossover in the works which will be based on the larger American Passat platform. That vehicle is also expected in 2014 and will likely be sold only in the North American market.
