February brings good news across the Ford line up for sales. The good news is that overall Ford has seen a bounding sales increase of 23% over last year. That is huge great news, and a positive indicator for Detroit.
The all new 2011 Ford Explorer is the star of the show with a massive 268% increase in sales over the old model, selling 9,657 copies. And even better news in that number is that the other SUV/CUV models in Fords lineup Edge and Escape were not cannibalized by the Explorer, also seeing double digit increases in sales.
Models like the Ford Fusion and Fiesta also all saw huge sales increases. The all new Fiesta saw its strongest month ever with 6,270 units sold. The Fusion sold the most with 23,111 cars moving out the door. The old Focus is selling down with the introduction of the all new 2012 models later this year, selling a healthy 10,879.
Ford is seeing that with gas prices in the rise that small cars with four-cylinder engines will continue to be popular. They point out that three out of five car name plates in their showrooms achieve 40 miles per gallon, which is a major feat today.
Despite rising gas prices, Ford is confident with their SUV and Crossover lines now rivaling the industry’s best for efficiency. The Escape Hybrid, Escape, Edge, and ew Explorer are all leaders in their classes.
